Position/Title:
After School Counselor (preferred Russian Speaking) 
Duration: Monday-Friday, 1:30 pm to 6 pm or 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

The Kings Bay Y is a community center dedicated to enhancing the lives of the existing community through quality educational, cultural, social, and artistic programs. The Kings Bay YM-YWHA is the largest multi-service agency in the area, serving the entire South Brooklyn community with quality programs for adults and children. 

Program Overview:
Our After-School Program is truly unique to the community because we provide various activities, quality programming, and individualized attention to the children within the program. Parents can sign-up for 1-5 days of the program. We provide free transportation from most schools and a healthy nutritious snack, and our program hours are the children’s dismissal to 6:00 pm. In addition, we also offer mini-camps during holidays and 1/2 days (where we pick up early from school). For information about our After School Program, you can visit www.kingsbayy.org. 

General Responsibilities: 
  • To ensure the daily and safe arrival of participants. 
  • Provide a warm and welcoming facility where children can feel safe and nurtured. 
  • Ensure daily attendance and roster changes are recorded. 
  • Assist in delivering daily healthy, nutritious lunches and/or snacks. 
  • Assist Children with homework.
  • Maintain a daily homework log for each participant. 
  • Ensure all unusual behavior is reported to the supervisor.
  • Reinforce desirable behavior, not focusing on disruptive behavior, so all participants feel part of the program. 
  • Alert Supervisor if any kind of abuse/neglect of a child is suspected. 
  • Help ensure daily recreation and a positive experience for everyone 
  • To provide recreational activities in a safe and nurturing environment. 
  • Participate in all activities and enrichment programs with the participants.
  • Guide all activities that stimulate mind and body development. 
  • Help children develop their strengths through creative play, swimming, sports, dance, arts & crafts, storytime, and more. 
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and training sessions as needed. 
  • Engage into swimming and sports activities. 

Requirements: 
  • Background Check (Clearances will be done during the onboarding process.)
  • Must be 17 years or older. 
  • Valid ID.
  • Resume. 
  • Cover letter. 

Rate: 
  • $16.50 Starting Hourly Rate – Will vary based on experience.
